Motivation is the engine of action. It will get you going and get you to make choices, take steps and make progress. We all know the feeling of not wanting to do anything, but if that lingers for too long because of factors like stress, doubts or fear, this could lead to procrastination, endless worrying or even loneliness.
Avoid procrastination
Don’t let fear or uncertainty guide you by postponing everything. Recognise that if you feel disheartened, you can turn the tide much faster than you might think and that you can change that yourself. But how do you do that?
From thinking to doing
When you’ve figured out that you want to accomplish your goal, it is time to get out of your head and get going. Don’t let your thoughts keep going around in circles and paralyse you but break this cycle by taking action!
Take the first step; that one phone call, that email, or the conversation that you keep putting off. You’ll notice that you start feeling better right away. Make sure you have an overview. When you start worrying you think of everything that can or has to happen. Make an overview of all your activities and prioritise.
Try to do something every day. This will make the next steps easier. Recognise that you need some help. Don’t keep it to yourself but talk about it with people you trust and feel comfortable talking to and get going!
Acknowledge that there’s a lot of people that go through this and people most people will be able to identify with you and are willing to help you. Every progress will be accompanied with some temporary setbacks. Sometimes you will take three steps forward and one backwards.
Every step will bring you closer to your goal.
Strive for progress, not perfection
